In Corfu and Crete the next championships of the European Golf Association
The European Golf Association (EGA) has been made very aware of the Hellenic Golf Federation’s enthusiasm to host European title championships in upcoming years. Recent visits by EGA Championship Manager, Richard Heath, have been made to the Crete and Corfu Golf Clubs in preparation for the European Men’s Challenge Trophy and European Ladies’ Club Trophy, respectively.
The Crete Golf Club offers an interesting layout with mutually unique and memorable holes set in picturesque hillside surrounds with sea views. The nature of the rough will promote conservative play from the tee and length reduction will not hurt the player until the wind blows. Then, the course will become truly difficult placing pressure on the player to take more club from the tee on headwind holes than will be comfortable. Difficult rules decisions for relief may result owing to the nature of the rough in some areas; course practice facilities are excellent.
The Corfu Golf Club offers a more subtle challenge in the form of a valley-encased parkland course. What you see is what you get with mature trees lining the fairways punctuated by several lakes. The course plays a true championship length from the back tees and will always bring about a fair and true result.
The EGA looks forward to returning the Greece to stage its championships and competitors will enjoy the fine course layouts and famous friendliness and hospitality for which the hosts are known.
